Hi my name is Kaila and I am 16 years old. I was born in Columbian Presbyterian Hospital on 168th in Broadway. I have two older sisters and one nephew; all which I love very much. I was raised in the Bronx; first on Setan avenue and then I moved to 181st in Walton. As every normal teenager I love to hang out with my friends and I try to have a good time wherever I go. Although I enjoy hanging out with my friends, I still do love to be around my family; I try and make sure that there is always room in my “busy” schedule for my family. I love my family very much but I always feel that there is something or someone missing due to the fact that my father passed away when I was six years old. Because my father wasn’t there, there were up and down periods in my life: some where I was extremely sensitive and others where I was tough. Because of the back to back year loss of my grandmother, then father, I developed a hard skin and didn’t allow anyone in because of the fear of losing someone again. Because of my father not being there to protect me, I matured earlier than most my age. As the years went on I learned to cope and open up to all those around me. Entering into De la Salle Academy (junior high school) and then Cardinal Spellman high school, I met some of the most amazing people and those that I will be friends with for the rest of my life. My friends complete me; I love them to death because they are always there for me when I need them and no matter what the situation is they are always there with a helping hand or a shoulder to lean on. Whenever I need anything I can count on these friends that I made from my two amazing schools. I am entering into my senior year in High school and can’t wait for all the fun that awaits me. Even though I am looking toward the fun I am also looking forward to the hard work that awaits me as well because I want to go to a great University, and then on to medical school to accomplish my dream of becoming a neurosurgeon. I’ve always wanted to be a doctor but it wasn’t until junior high school that I wanted to be a brain surgeon. That is when I dissected a fetus pig and now I officially had my future profession. I have never wanted anything more than to become a neurosurgeon. I am looking forward to my future because I know that with hard work and determination you can accomplish almost anything; you define what is impossible.
