My Biography
My name is Aura Tavarez. I’m from the Dominican Republic, and I’m sixteen years old. I live now in the United States, in New York City. I live with my father and sister my mother lives in the Dominican Republic. I go to high school. I’m going to the eleventh grade this year and I’m very excited about it. It’s going to be a great year of school. We have a band in my school which I’m part of it. I play the flute. It’s a really cool instrument and I like it. My hobbies are to use the computer, play the flute, play games, and go out with my friends. I mostly like spending time and having fun with my friends and family.
I also like to play sports like baseball, volleyball, and swimming. I like rock climbing, hiking, and canoeing. My favorite color it symbolizes cleanest to. My favorite channel is MTV. I like different kinds of music I like Hip Hop, Pop, Latin music, Merengue, bachata, and salsa. Merengue and Bachata are the national music of my country. One thing that I think is the best from my country is the food; especially Arroz y habichuelas (Rice and beans) that’s the best ever and I really miss it.
The United States is very different from my country. Everything here revolves around work, work, work …….In my country, nobody works on weekends and we go out and get together with family members. In New York, New York, the big apple, it’s as if nobody knows each other, even the families.
I’m lucky that I’m in a program called CampInteractive; it takes camping trips all over the United States. They do a lot of trips every summer and in the winter. Last summer I went to Vermont. I had so much fun that was great. This year I had the amazing opportunity to go to South Dakota it was the best! We went like to fourteen states all over the United States. Amazing is the best word to describe it. I’m really, really excited about this program and I think that I’m going to continue coming and being part of it. I love talking with people about my experiences or these trips. I think that it’s a great opportunity in life.
I like to accomplish all my goals and this program has helped me in ways to do that. I have a lot of goals that are my dreams of life. I want to graduate from college, have a good job where I can be independent and give back in some way to my parents for all those years of sacrifices because I’m really thankful to them for always being there whenever I need them.
