The Steps

The day before we went on the actual trip we had to learn how to pick a paddle, how to hold a paddle in your left and right hands, how to paddle, and how to get out of a current.

Picking a Paddle

Picking a paddle is very easy. All you have to do is put the paddle on your foot. If the paddle is between your nose and chin, that is the paddle you have to use.

Using a Paddle

For your right hand, put your right hand on the handle and the left hand on the top of the grip and for the left hand just do the same vise versa.

Currents

Getting out of currents is also easy. All you have to do is paddle your canoe to the side. Don’t try to travel against a current because you’re just wasting energy.
