Whale
Watch
Whale Watch is basically a test on how we were
able to work together to balance 9 kids on a
single well balanced board. We did alright but
would’ve done better if we would have had
paid more attention to the way we positioned
ourselves on the board. The key thing to remember
while on the board is that weight does not matter.
The way to complete this activity is to allow
2 people at a time go on the board and let them
go as far as they want but they must move at
the same time and must be opposite of one another
on the 2 sides of the board. When trying to get
off let 2 people come to the center of the board
and hop off at the same time. After completing
the come off part of the activity you have then
successfully completed.
The good Morning Game
One of the funnest things we did on the trip was
play the Good Morning game.
Its real simple, you would get a small ball and
pass it around and ask people
their name and how they feel about the trip. And
also what they learned and
what we experienced in the outdoors and we would
ask when we are going
home.
Ropes
Course. This was a course consisting of 3 sections.
These are the 3 parts:
As we tried to get onto the ropes course we
had to get up a Rope Ladder.
1. 2 wires symmetrical to each other leading
to the other platform. We had to put our feet
on the bottom wire to balance our self on the
top one with our hands. The instructors told
us to lean forward so it would be easier. We
couldn’t walk like a normal person either;
we would have to walk side ways. Once we reached
the other platform the next challenge was waiting.
2. As we step on the next raised area we had
to change the hooks on our harness so we could
continue on. The reason for this is because if
we didn’t then if one of us fell then there
is no support system for us. Once each of us
did this we then faced the Monkey Ropes. You
have to use your whole body to stay balanced
to go across the ropes. It’s better to
go through the middle or the top because like
I did, I went through the bottom and I had a
hard time lifting myself up on the ropes to get
on the platform for the next part.
3. In the last part we all had to again balance
our self’s on the bottom wire but instead
there were crossed ropes to hold on to. I honestly
thought it was scary because you could have fallen
at anytime. As we continued on, we had to touch
the tree at the end. Once we did us then had
to lean back in the middle with your legs straight
like you were sitting down and you were lifted
down.
We had a lot of fun doing this activity, and
we all hope to do it again some day. Here are
the opinions of some of the students on the trip:
Olivia: “It was hard and painful to the
arms.”
Julius: “It was easy and a piece of cake.”
Kyron: “I felt nervous at the beginning
but great at the end.”
Zuheilly watched us do it and helped us out,
this is how she felt:
“I didn’t really care, but it was
funny.”
