This was the last day of the trip and we were all so
happy because this was the last day to row the boats. That day we woke
up at 6:00 am on the dot, to start rowing at 7:30 a.m. We started to eat
breakfast and cleaned the boats for the last day, but since we needed
to go with the tide we had to wait until the time was right to go down
the harbor with the ebb and to South street seaport in the flood. Both
captains from the crew got together with Trevor to discuss the matter.
All three agreed to leave at 11:00 am so that we had and hour to row down
the harbor and then head up to South street seaport by 12:00 pm and meet
our deadline of meeting Jake at 12:30 p.m. Before leaving both crews had
to finish their final project which was to give an interview and act like
a person we had met along the Hudson and give our opinion on the Hudson
from their prospective. That wasn=t the only thing we had to do. Before
leaving we had do a communication plan, which was about how to communicate,
when to communicate over the radio and so on. Finally we had to draw a
map of the New York Harbor starting from Chelsea piers to south street
seaport. Since we had about two hours, we had to move really quickly even
though none of us had will to do it.
In the end we finished in time and both vessels left Chelsea piers at
11:00 am and we were on our way to South Street Seaport. To get there
was a big challenge, by far this was one of the toughest things we had
done. The waves weren=t being helpful at all and they slammed our boats
and took us on a rough ride. That day the weather was ok. Everyone was
sweating hard from all of the rowing we had to do. To most people this
may seem easy but it is very difficult with ferries and boats passing
by. We all wanted to finish in style and get to the planed location in
time.
Once we got to South Street Seaport our destination was reached. Everyone
had that feeling of finally finishing the longest New York City Outward
Bound Sailing Expedition. Oh Yeah and that felt good. Not only that, we
were back home, back to our comfort zone. All of our belongings were taken
out and taken close to the sidewalk so that we could get our supplies
from the first week, have our last meeting for the last time and have
a final discussion about the Juan and Dwight situation. Like both crews
had said, before they weren=t allowed to come back. After the meeting
we were all off to the city and on our way home.
