July 9th 2001: a program called CampInteractive leaves the Bronx to go on an Outward Bound Course in the Adirondacks Mountains. On the course were just ordinary kids, many of whom were entering the great outdoors for the first time. The fourteen kids split into two groups guided by 3 counselers per group, and both groups came up with up with a name. Our group came up with the name "Gang N.G.U," which stands for "Never Give Up."
We came up with this name because
at times, the trip was much more challenging than we expected, and many
in the
group were tempted to give up.
One day, Dwight started to sing the song "Win" by Brian McKnight.
It inspired the group, and everyone started trying a little harder and
had a little more confidence to push themselves to do their best.
This trip was a success becasue we inspired each other, and we learned many things about ourselves. We found that we had more strength, courage and abilites than we thought we did, and that these lessons could carry over into our day-to-day lives when the trip ended. We learned not to give up, to respect the environment, and respect our own health.
