My Adventure
My
adventure started when I decided to go camping with Camp Interactive.
July 9th started early for me, that's when it all began. I met a lot of
kids and they all seemed weird at first, but soon we were all cool
friends.
I was in
a group that we would later call the N.G.U Gang. It consisted of 6 kids.
There were a few difficulties, so we ended up with 5: Carlos, Dwight, Marlene,
Kelly and me Babs (Barbara).
The N.G.U
Gang started hiking first. We picked up a lot of really useful gear, and
started the hike. During the hike, a lot of problems began, like I started
to miss my home and my family, especially my Mom. Being away from
home was painful. I had never been away from home for so
long, and I was homesick, but
the counselors and the rest of the kids helped me a lot.
After we
had been hiking for a while, we got to a steep hill and I was scared.
The hill was on
a cliff and it felt like I was
going to fall. I was so scared I started to cry.
The
way I over came my fear was that I listened to all the advice I got and
the song that Dwight
sang--"Never Give Up" by Brian
McKnight. Every time I was angry Dwight would start to sing and it
would make me feel a little bit better. It made me want to keep going
so I could go home and listen to a REAL radio. That is how
we came up with our group name N.G.U. Gang, form the song title.
The N.G.U.
Gang was getting along fine, but it was kind of hard working together.
Everybody had a different way of doing things and nobody wanted to sacrifice
their own way or idea. Sometimes it would take twice as long to finish
a task or even start it.

But we didn't only have
bad times. We had good times too. We played a game where Dwight
and Carlos were blindfolded and had to perform a task while the others
talked them through it. They had to put a pot over a boot and a raincoat
over it all. It left Dwight and Carlos wrestling and Carlos trying to take
Dwight’s boot. In the end Carlos got it and my team won.
We also had
a good time when the instructors sent us to bed and the boys decided they
wanted to come and scare us. I got scared and Kelly jumped on Marlene.
Then Dwight
grabbed me and I got scared
and jumped on Marlene too. Then we all just started playing cards.
So even though
this trip was very difficult, I had lots of fun and learned a lot.
I learned to trust new people and that I had a strong will and that I don't
give up as easily as I thought I would. If you decide to go an expedition
like this I hope you learn and grow as much as I did.
