Programs

Through CampInteractive’s unique adventure and technology programs, youth develop leadership skills, computer proficiency, and a belief in themselves that carries into all aspects of their lives.

Year-round After-school Program: CI offers a comprehensive after-school tutoring program in partnership with the Bronx High School of Science National Honors Society. Members of the Honor Society come to the Tech & Trek Center four days a week and offer one-on-one tutoring to CI students. In addition to providing essential academic support, these tutors are dynamic role models who forge close bonds and provide essential encouragement to our students.

Winter Program: Each winter, a select group of students participate in CI's winter snowboarding adventure in Aspen, Colorado. CI partners with Aspen Youth Experience (AYE), where participants are joined by young people from similar organizations all over the country. AYE is an ideal partner for CI because its programs combine challenging physical activities with a supportive group environment to jump-start self-esteem and propel personal development.

Summer Program: Each summer, CI students participate in an extended wilderness expedition, which they document through digital photography, video and journaling. Participants journey into environments such as Vermont, New Jersey, South Dakota and Colorado for 5-30 day hiking, camping, rock climbing, and canoeing experiences. Throughout the program, participants are trained in leadership, teamwork and communication skills. In this new environment, the students form a peer group based on positive reinforcement, integrity, and a healthy work ethic. The summer program gives our students a sense of responsibility and empowerment.

Upon returning to the city, CI students begin a two-week intensive information technology and digital design program hosted at the CI Tech & Trek Center in the Bronx. Classes range from computer basics to photo editing, video editing, and web design. In addition, students learn to strengthen their literacy skills, as well as improve public speaking and social skills. The program culminates in the websites that students design and launch to share their outdoor experiences.

Cat Rock Leadership Program: The Cat Rock Leadership Program is a select group of 12 students who demonstrate a passion and commitment to the outdoors and technology, and a desire to learn more. The students in the Leadership Program attend monthly outdoor expeditions and leadership trainings, become certified in first aid and CPR, and will go on to assist on outdoor trips and technology classes. Most importantly, graduates serve as role models and mentors to younger students.

Community Service Days: Community service and environmental stewardship are central to the mission of CI. We organize three community service projects every year. These projects include tree plantings, graffiti removals, and park restorations. Our community service days are an opportunity for CI students to learn about their environment and give back to their community. They are also a chance for the larger community to get involved with the mission and youth of CI.

Year-round Workshops: A variety of workshops are offered throughout the year to continue to enrich the lives of CI participants and young adults in the community. Workshops vary in length from one-day seminars to 10-week courses. Topics include video editing, newsletter design, digital music production, and computer repair. In addition, there is an ongoing guest speaker and empowerment workshop series where inspiring individuals share their stories and knowledge with CI students.
